When Lindsay and Jeff asked me to photograph their engagement session at Dundurn Castle, I knew we were in for a beautiful experience. The grandeur of the castle, combined with their natural chemistry, promised some truly magical shots. But what I didn’t expect was the twist: their engagement session fell on the same night as the ghost tours at the castle!
As we arrived, it quickly became clear that the castle grounds were buzzing with energy. Hundreds of people were coming and going, drawn to the eerie excitement of the ghost tours. While it made things a little tricky, it also added a unique, fun element to our session. We had to get a little creative, weaving through the crowd to find spots where Lindsay and Jeff could shine without too much distraction.
Despite the hustle and bustle, Lindsay and Jeff were absolute troopers. Their relaxed yet elegant style was perfect for the castle’s historic backdrop. We captured the charm of the venue with its stunning architecture, lush gardens, and sweeping views, all while navigating the lively crowd. There were moments of laughter as we dodged tour groups and ghost hunters, but it only added to the fun of the session, making it a truly memorable experience.
As the sun began to set, we were joined by Lindsay and Jeff’s adorable puppy for some final shots. This sweet little companion added an extra layer of warmth and charm to the session, and we were able to capture some heartwarming moments of the three of them together. There’s something so special about including pets in engagement sessions—it always brings out those authentic, candid moments.
We wrapped up the session with an edgy twist, using shutter drag flash photography to add a dynamic, modern feel to the images. The technique created a stunning motion blur effect, which, combined with the night sky and the castle’s lit-up exterior, gave the final shots a bold and artistic edge.
In the end, Lindsay and Jeff’s engagement session was a beautiful mix of elegance, fun, and a little bit of unpredictability. The crowd, the puppy, and the ghost tours all played their part in making this shoot one for the books. I can’t wait to see what their wedding day has in store!
